AMBIENT CONTENT
In the early 00’s as flat-screen TVs became part of modern interiors, we recognized a new canvas had emerged — and no one was painting on it.
We created Ambient Content to fill that void: cinematic motion art designed for homes and interiors. The first piece debuted at Social Hollywood and sparked early buzz. Then work for Karl Lagerfeld, Gucci and Conde Nast led to an audience with David Fincher who was kind enough to advise and make introductions. Fincher’s kindness and support led to private financing and a 10-title motion art series, with original soundtracks curated by DJ Chris Douridas of KCRW.
Though poised for distribution with partners like Sony, Apple and Best Buy, the project was ultimately stalled by a collision of timing, formats, and economics. —The 2008 total collapse of the DVD market followed six months later by the world banking collapse.
Three titles would later appear in the final scene of The Social Network — a quiet nod to a vision not fully realized.
Years later, as experiential video, visual albums, and digital installations filled galleries and homes, the concept proved prescient.
Ambient Content was a platform before platforms. A vision — just slightly too early.
