MAC MILLER
The Diver wasn’t made for Swimming — it came from something earlier. A short film we created during the final chapter of a separate project. The character was part of a world drawn by artist Todd Hippensteel. A lone figure, suited and weighted, descending through layers of time, memory, and culture — all sinking slowly into darkness. A quiet meditation.
When Malcolm shared the first track from Swimming — what would become “Come Back to Earth” — we tested it, as we often do, against a range of visual references. Then something unexpected happened. The Diver film synced perfectly. Like so many things that happened while working with him, it felt pre-ordained, conjured.
We sent it to Malcolm. His response was instantaneous. The Diver became a symbol.
