OUR SPIRIT
In the spring of 2021, we were approached by a collective of Mexican and Mexican American entrepreneurs with two essential elements already in place: a remarkable organic Mezcal and the conviction that Mezcal would follow Tequila’s meteoric rise on the global stage.
We worked closely with the founders to shape a brand that would be rooted in cultural legitimacy, unapologetic pride, and authentic heritage. Drawing on their frustration with the dominance of celebrity-owned and multinational agave spirits — many with little or no connection to Mexican culture — we helped define a brand that could stand as both a cultural statement and a world-class product.
Working closely with the founders, we developed ZOMOZ from the ground up creating a super-premium Mezcal brand rooted in cultural legitimacy, unapologetic pride, and authentic heritage. Born out of frustration with the dominance of culturally appropriated,celebrity-owned and multinational agave spirits brands — crafting the name, brand identity, design system, and packaging, as well as setting the foundational brand strategy and messaging framework. The name itself, derived from an alternative spelling of “somos” (we are), served as both a declaration and a call to action — representing the shared spirit, pride, and creative power of Mexican culture.
ZOMOZ was positioned as “Our Spirit” — a super-premium, organic, artesanal Mezcal that not only embodies exceptional craftsmanship but also boldly asserts cultural ownership and pride. The visual identity blended modern design cues with deep references to Mexican iconography, creating a brand presence that is at once contemporary and rooted in history. The messaging framework, from tagline to brand storytelling, elevated ZOMOZ as a symbol of a modern Mexican renaissance — a brand born from and for the creative communities shaping culture today.
ZOMOZ officially launched with a fully realized brand system, packaging suite, and creative platform that positioned it as a new cultural standard for authentic, Mexican-owned Mezcal — legitimate, bold, and future-facing.
